Mary Rush Wood, Incumbent Board Member

My name is Mary Rush Wood.  I am a current member of the Lansing USD 469 School Board and I'm running for re-election.

I am a lifelong Lansing resident and a graduate of Lansing High School with deep roots in this community.  I worked for the Sisters of Charity from 8th grade until I graduated from Lansing High School in 1976.  When my husband of 19 years, Greg, passed away in 2005, I continued to raise our daughter here in Lansing while pursuing my career in healthcare.

Commitment to Service

I am strongly committed to volunteer service, and have served others in many capacities over the years, particularly through K-12 fundraising efforts and as a member of the Parent Teacher Organization.  In addition to serving as a school board member since 2022, I have also been the treasurer for the Wyndham Hills Home Owner's Association since 2013 and an active member of the  Leavenworth County Republican Women's group.

Board Member Accomplishments:

As a a board member for the past four years, Mary Wood has represented Lansing well.  Here are a few of her most significant accomplishments:

  • Voted to remain revenue neutral (NOT raise property taxes) all four years.
  • Helped pass The Parent's Bill of Rights
  • Curriculum Transparency (all curriculum is listed online, including library books
  • Library, classroom material and display policy to keep political ideology off of walls and out of classrooms
  • Gender policy to ensure "no secrets" are kept from parents and restricts shared bathrooms and locker rooms to members of the same sex.
  • Removed DEI professional development training and curriculum
  • Reversed unfair COVID leave policy for teachers and staff
